We are currently recruiting for a Nursery Chef to join us at Holyrood Nursery Haydock with 25 hours per week (5 per day).

We consider this role to be of key importance in meeting our aims of health promotion and infection control.

Essential Requirements:

  • To hold a certificate in Food Hygiene.
  • Certificates in catering will be an advantage.
  • To complete a PVG check.
  • To be able to work as part of a team.
  • To maintain confidentiality in respect of any information about children, staff or parents and families.
  • To have loyal working practices for the nursery and to work as a member of any team within the organisation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To prepare lunches, suitable for children from birth – 5 years, following nursery menu and catering for special dietary requirements.
  • To maintain levels of stock appropriate for menu requirements.
  • To assist with distribution and portion control and promotion of healthy eating.
  • To follow and maintain the budget as set out by the Nursery Manager.
  • To maintain a high standard of personal hygiene including a neat and tidy appearance, perspiration control and removing all nail polish and jewelry.
  • To cook and store foods with a high standard of hygiene.
  • To wear appropriate protective clothing whilst in the kitchen. This clothing should not be worn outside the kitchen at any time.
  • To correctly store and label all foods fresh or frozen.
  • To safely dispose of all kitchen waste and to maintain the cleanliness of all bins for foodstuffs.
  • To maintain safely all kitchen equipment including the cleaning and washing of crockery and cutlery.
  • To ensure that the nursery staff follows good levels of hygiene whilst in the kitchen by wearing protective clothing and strictly observing hand washing routines.
  • To maintain records required by law for Temperatures (CookSafe, Setting the Table) and COSHH.
